Comments:

Life is good. After a few years away from McPherson I came back in about 1972 and worked for CertainTeed selling Machinery. In 1977 I went to work for my dad's new business, Vanguard Plastics, as Sales Manager for flexible plastic plumbing pipe and fittings. The first five years were pure market development--hard work for little business, but lots of fun. Business started to take off in about 1983. After a roller coaster ride that rivaled the biggest roller coaster I could ever imagine we sold the Vanguard Plastics business in 2005. I am now retired and still living in good old McPherson.

I met Linda in May of 2000; married in 2002. She is the love of my life. We really enjoy our lives together. She works for the McPherson school system. I do some volunteering, and enjoy watching McPherson industry progress (although the last two years have been a challenge). I enjoy photography, golf, flying and spend lots of time perusing social websites such as our high school site and Facebook.

We see our kids and our eight grandkids when we can. They are spread out in Florida, Kansas, Oklahoma and Arizona so visits are hit and miss. We will keep working on finding opportunities as our kids and maintaining health are reasons for retirement.

My dad (97) passed away in Hilton Head, SC in December of 2013. He was on a traditional Wednesday evening date with his friend, Margaret, to see the play, "42nd Street." He simply collapsed on the sidewalk and could not be revived. He was a lucky man in life, and also in death. We should all be so lucky.

My sister, Dinah, took time each week to check in on him, and give him the care and assistance that he, privately, felt he did not need, but, in truth, welcomed very much. Dinah and her husband, Barry, live in Georgetown, SC, not too far from dad. Linda and I will continue our visits to the Hilton Head, SC area.

The future is now (as the cliche goes). With the McPherson Country Club, Healthcare Foundation, YMCA and travel to see kids, relatives and friends who could ask for more.

School Story:

1. First Day in School

I remember moving to McPherson in 1955. My first day at school was at the old Junior High bldg. The scene was in front of the auditorium. All the 8th graders were standing on the steps and sidewalk with Doug Young basically leading the pack.

Once inside, I was introduced to Dewey Pennington who was assigned to take me around and introduce me (yeah, right! What a mentor.). Later in the week, I was sitting quietly in my front row seat waiting for class to begin. I was pretty shy, and knew virtually no one. I arose to sharpen my pencil. When I turned and stepped forward I bumped solidly into, and found my "very red face" nesting between Eloise Wall's boobs. Eloise loved it, and cackled loudly with laughter. Everybody in class saw it happen. I was never so embarrassed.

Although I was heavily recruited for both the MHS basketball and football teams I chose the infamous Bill Moore golf team. Actually, I liked the idea of coming to golf meets in his yellow Caddy convertible with glass-pack pipes. Everybody knew when the MHS golf team arrived.

I ran across these pics in my parent's photo album last week. I don't know when these photos were taken, but probably during college years.
