John Edward Sand

John Sand died April 10,1972 at his apartment at 6921 Prospect in Kansas City, MO. He was 29. John was born on November 13, 1942 in Mcpherson County to Edward and Helen Sand.

Following high school, John attended Kansas State University where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering. At the time of his death, John was a consulting engineer for Bendix Corporation of Kansas City, Kansas.

His funeral was April 13, 1972 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in McPherson. He is buried in McPherson Cemetery.

According to Kansas City police, John was despondent over his parents ill health and inablility to care for them properly.

This is truly a tragic story. As many of you know, there are details missing here that might warrant a private discussion. Maybe the Truman Copote in you will bring this out in the future!

I can fill you all in on what happened to John. He was a very special person and would not hurt a fly. His parents were very good people but their world revolved around John. He could not have a life of his own. When he graduated college and left McPherson, his parents went with him. When they became ill, he could not go against their wishes and put them in a nursing home. He shot them and then himself. He left a note. It was a horribly sad day.

I, Deanna Christiansen Strella, knew him well and he was a kind guy. We graduated from a country grade school (Centerview) together, along with Jacob Goering. Only three in our class.
